It also just so happened that both shows pulled the same maneuver with their most recent seasons. The same goes for Thrones, every shocking death was always followed by at least a few more minutes of footage. It is, after all, the first time the main character has died in the last few minutes of a season on The Walking Dead, let alone an unknown character.Įvery season, no matter who died, we always had, at least, a few minutes of resolution.
It’s not really much of a surprise that the two biggest shows in television would steal from, or prank one another, and since HBO got the last word previously, it’s not a far stretch to believe that AMC might have tried to steal of the Throne’s mojo so to speak. The subtext from Game of Thrones producers was clear we don’t play with our fans. They released a promotional photo of the presumed dead Jon Snow. When The Walking Dead made it seem that main cast member Steven Yeun’s character Glen had perhaps met his demise, Game of Thrones producers had a quick response. Who did Negan kill? Is Jon Snow really dead? The questions are very similar, and this would hardly be the first time the two gargantuan shows would be influenced by the other. But regardless, the parallel comes from the similarity in killing the main character in the last moments of the season, before fading to black and making us all wait until next season to find out exactly what happened. Wise fans know that Jon Snow will not stay dead for long, that through some sort of magical ritual our favorite Lord Commander will rise from the dead, and not as a zombie on The Walking Dead. The camera switches to the point of view of the soon to be deceased character, and after a few whacks to the head, the camera fades to black. Negan plays the worst game of eeny, meeny, miny, moe anyone has ever played, before choosing an unseen cast member to die. After Negan delivered an epic speech detailing the new world order for Rick and the group, the bad news bear came for one of the Alexandrians, courtesy of Negan’s barb wired wrapped bat.Īnd here is where the parallels with HBO’s juggernaut begin to take shape. Negan’s gang spent most of the episode ramping up the tension for our favorite band of merry survivors until Rick and crew eventually got the idea they were completely helpless. But was there any similarity in the way Jon Snow met his doom on HBO’s Game of Thrones and how a certain character met his or her fate on The Walking Dead? (Spoilers ahead for both shows. Comic fans had long-awaited the reveal of their favorite villain, a man so charismatic that it was impossible to ever truly hate him. In the 90 minute finale that aired on AMC this past Sunday, Walking Dead fans were in for a wild ride, as the tension built and built until the reveal of the show’s biggest villain the baseball bat wielding, leather jacket clad, swearing like a sailor, Negan.
Popular zombie drama The Walking Dead aired its season finale this past Sunday and left a main character’s death in doubt.
